How to Apply
for ANY Position
-
Always
write a letter of introduction within your email
versus attaching a separate document in addition to
your resume.
-
When
assigning a document name to your resume, always
make it last name and then first name, i.e. Jones,
Bob.doc. This will make your information much
easier to locate for the potential employer or
recruiter.
-
If you are
not qualified for the position for which you are
applying, indicate the missing element in your
email. This will show that you have thoroughly
reviewed the job description and have a
strong attention to detail. The best way to
approach this situation is to be honest with the
person screening resumes. They will appreciate
your effort not to waste their time.
Following are a
couple of examples on wording.
If you are
missing one or two of the requirements:
-
I would be
interested to discuss this position with you.
However, I would like to draw something to your
attention before we arrange any interviews or
discussions. My experience covers a number of
industries, but unfortunately not the insurance
industry. If this is a definite requirement,
then I am not the candidate you are looking for.
But, if the emphasis is on Project Management and
communication, then I would most certainly like the
opportunity to discuss this position with you.
I am very interested in the type of initiative that
you have described and should other opportunities
come up where you feel I might make a strong
contribution, I would like to be placed under
consideration.
Attached is my resume for your review.
If you are not
qualified at all:
-
I am
writing to you because upon review of your current
opportunities and your corporate web site I would
like to express a strong interest in working for
(name of company). I am not qualified for this
position, however I would like to be considered for
any other opportunities within your organization
where you feel I might be a fit. Thank you in
advance for your time!
